If I access Manage Feeds function (by clicking File>>Manage Feeds) I cannot exit that function and return to normal view. The only way I have found to return to normal view is to completely exit FeedReader and restart it. It then starts up in normal mode.

Do you see "Cancel" button in feed edit form? At the moment if you press there you should get out of feed management window. In next release you can also press Escape to return to normal window.
