Open Headline in Background? (And others)

There were three features in 2.9 that I'd really like to see make a return.

  • Open in External Application
  • When right clicking a headline, you could choose "Open in External Browser". This allowed the default options to use the minibrowser, yet be able to open in an external browser with an extra click.

  • Open headline in background
  • Kind of hard to describe with a title. Basically, when you opened a headline link externally, it would open in the background instead of stealing focus. If this is possible to re-implement, that would be fantastic.

  • "Comments", "Email This", "PermaLink"
  • I mentioned it in This Thread, but doubted it would get looked at since it speaks of a torrent site and has a poor description in the title. The Gist:
In FeedReader 2.9, there were many RSS Feeds I use which would include a "Comments" link that would take you to to an alternative link, depending on the specific feed. I can no longer find the link in the preview pane. What happened to these other action links? (Like the "email this", "permalink", "linking blogs", and links like those...)

Is there any chance of this being re-implemented? If not, is there any way to change the default template to include it manually?

"Open in External

"Open in External Application" - this will be in 3.03

"Open headline in background" - we reimplemented this like it was in 2.9. But here we have big question. Should this be enabled by default? Because users can get confused as if you click "open in new window" then nothing big happens (because article is being opened in background).

"Comments..." - they will be back in. We are changing backend in 3.03 but do not have stylesheet changed yet. So XSL gurus can do the changes themselves but normal users have to wait a little bit.

Nice to hear the good news

I'm glad to hear that in the end these will be implemented.

Regarding opening in the background: I would say have the default be as it is now, and have background be an option. Run of the mill users most likely would prefer it that way and wouldn't get confused.

Regarding Comments, etc: I see. I don't really know much about that field, so I guess I'll have to wait until it's fully implemented.

Keep up the great work, toomas! :)
