Feedreader 3

at first check is no firewall blocking FR. If you install new FR then some firewall silently are blocking app !!

Then take Tools-> Options Connection Test Internet Connection.
If everything ok, then from same tab click checkbox
"Use multiple connections for updating the feeds".
Press Ok , after that restart FR.

If you click on taskbar FR icon, right click "Update all feeds".

What happens after that (1 minute), no update progress icon on left side on taskbar.

Every time you report an error, it's important to know
* Fr version (currenlty I know, that is FR 3.12)
* computer params
* operation system
* amount of feeds, also how many user defined smartfeeds.

If nothing helps, then you must send database, so we can test possible "bugs".

Some feeds do update - so I do not believe the firewall could be a problem. After a FeedReader install the firewall asks to give FeedReader permissions, and, I, of course, grant them.

Done. Takes maybe 3 secs and am getting 4 times status 200 - OK.

Done. There's absolutely no visual indication thet FeedReader is doing something after clicking "Update all feeds". Also nothing if I update a single feed. The only thing I can see is that the "Last update" timestamp changes to the current time/date.

What do you mean? Is this a question, whether the "running clock" icon in the lower left corner disappears? It does not appear and as such does not disappear.

At other times, though, I've seen this lower-left-corner "running clock" icon run and run forever. Not now though.

Some feeds do update, some don't do nothing at all. Not if you wait and not if you update. If you delete and recreate the feed, it updates to the latest status (which is fine) and then never updates again.

The only unusual(?) thing is, that it's a dual-core.

40 feeds (but I'm willing to reduce to any amount required)
I don't know what a smartfeed is or how to identify it.
The feeds were created by clicking on an RSS icon on some website and the "www.xxx....xml" was then accepted in FeedReader.

I'm sorry to say that the upgrade to FeedReader 3.12 doesn't seem to change anything.

Waiting, or doing an "Update Feed" or "Update all feeds" does not show the new posts.

I should work, it's tested, with this app I can see 6 postings.

You could try force FR to update all feeds, takes some time...

Run feedreader one time with param /reset

"c:\program files\feedreader30\feedreader.exe" /reset

I started FeedReader with a "/reset"; problem did not go away
I un-installed FeedReader, rebooted, and re-installed it; problem still there

[Edit Jan 22 19:17: I thought the above feed wouldn't update, because it wasn't alerting me of new posts, but as it seems this feed would only alert for a new topic, not a new post within an existing topic. So it might actually work -- I'll have to wait until a new topic is created.

The fresh FeedReader install remembered all the (around 40) feeds that I had set up before: should I probably delete all feeds and re-generate? If so, how?

There are two things that we can do.

First thing is to debug the problematic database. If you could make your DB available somewhere and send link to it to my private email address then we would be very happy because it helps us to get rid of this bug. Currently we cannot establish this bug ourselves.

If you do not wish to send in the database (private information and so on ;)) then to reset information you just need to delete c:\documents and settings\USERNAME\application data\Feedreader\rssengine.fdb file. This is the file where all data is contained. If you delete it you will be again greeted with welcome dialog when starting Feedreader. If you wish to save the feeds in old database then please do Export OPML and later Import OPML again.

tested feeds, FR internally checks them. Those feeds are more like "sleeping" feeds, no new articles.

Can you add for example following feed:

http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss

this feeds updates quite often.

Also you could set from feed managment update period manually.
Select on left side all feeds, on right panel choose update period 10 minutes and press save.

One bug found, in reset function, we'll fix it !

The same rssengine.fdb is the one that we need. Just zip it and upload it to some server. My email address is toomas -ät- feedreader-dot-com

We investigated this database a little bit and did not find error there. But lets continue. You say that some feeds do not update. Can you do so that you subscribe to some feed and then mark "update period" to 5 minutes instead of intelliupdate. Thing is that Intelliupdate tracks the feed and looks how often does feed publish new articles. If this interval is not small then updateinterval can be in worst case 1 day. if you set update period manually then things should get better.

If this does not help and you say that some wiki feed still does not show new articles while you are adding them then I will subscribe to this feed myself and let you add articles/revisions and compare Feedreader findings to original feed.

But please wait a hour or so. I will also update latest 3.12 installer and then please do /reset again with it (just in case).

Downloaded newest version. Can't find an indication, whether it's really new -- can you please add a detailed version number somewhere (e.g. Help, About)?

Did a /reset. No indication if/what the program does something.

Did a "Update all feeds". Now this "clock" icon in the lower left corner is running since 15 mins. No indication if/which feed it is trying to update.

There must be something wrong -- as I had installed another RSS feed reader, I know that it take less than five seconds for this other feed reader to update my 40 feeds.

Sure, I did all this. The feeds that don't update, not only don't update if you wait for the next scheduled update, but they also do not update when you explicitly click "Update feed" or "Update all feeds".

The "last updated" time/date becomes current, but the feed show old posts only. If you go to the source page, you see several new posts.

This is the case for e. g. the feed mentioned in my initial report: http://community.wikidot.com/feed/forum/t-36121.xml

FeedReader shows two posts from Jan 19, but no matter how often I update, four new posts from Jan 20 do/did not appear.

Deleting and re-creating the feed in FeeedReader makes all existing posts appear, but again no further/later posts appear.

I subscribed to this feed. Currently it contains 6 entries. Can you please add an article to this feed. I have set FR to update every 5 minutes so it should appear quickly.

No, it doesn't.

Yes. I've even tried 1 minute interval. And, as said before, it doesn't update when clicking "Update feed" or "Update all feeds"

As posted before - downloaded, installed, but no change.

CNN feed updates, Feedreader forum feeds update, but this wikidot Forum doesn't.

Any further ideas?
