Prefilter incoming feeds

It would be a really nice touch if it would be possible not to receive / automatically drop news items globally or per-feed based on a matching on different properties of the received items. Maybe set up a white-filter for a feed to allow only the matched entries and drop the rest.

Example scenarios:

  • A user has a news feed that has gossip news items that s/he doesn't want to receive, s/he would set up a feed filter that matches such items with a keyword and deletes them automatically.
  • A user subscribes to several technical feeds, but had enough of xPhone news. S/he would set up a global filter that would drop all news items that contains the 'xPhone' string.
  • A user subscribes to a gadget oriented feed but only interested in MP3 players. S/he would set up a feed specific filter that only white-lists news items that mentions the strings 'MP3' and 'AAC' and drops the rest.

Localized search abilities would be nice too (as mentioned on an other feature request).

Thanks!

Greetings,

do you mean, if feed has articles, then they are deleted. The biggest problem here is that delete has slow performance in embbeded FB database and it causes database defragmention. Currently FR marks also (deleted)articles with delete flag and cleans those record after some time.

You could do smartfeed that displays only mp3 or ACC. With xphone you could set up smartfeed, that does not contain word xphone...

I don't understand 100% why is delete always good for:)))

But as always we don't say never NO to new ideas...sometimes it takes little bit time to implement those ideas.

What I mean is that the pre-filtered stuff shouldn't even hit the database.
It's known 'junk', therefore shouldn't even be stored.
In Smartfeeds the 'does not contain' rule feels awkward for me. (Maybe I'm not enough of a web2.0 person, but I'm not really fond of mixing together all of my feeds and if possible I'd avoid creating two sets of feeds, a raw and a filtered one.)

I personally would love this filtering feature, as I could filter out news entries that I'm 110% sure I'm not interested in. Cutting down the inflow of a feed that has 200+ news entries a day to a readable amount that only contains topics that I'm interested in would be nice.
I think it would be faster too, as if I'm not mistaken, smart feeds are populated when i click on any of them. At least it seems like that to me.

I hope I could clarify my request. If you don't want to implement this feature, because of any reason, I won't complain and surely won't request per-feed search and filtering functions ;)
Also, please excuse me if I'm asking something really stupid.

why mixing all the feeds

why mixing all the feeds ?

first criteria Feed number 1,2,3,8
second criteria exclude word "junk"

...in yahoo pipes , you can prefilter the feed/s if you don't want it in the database

you have the tools so why not use them ?

btw you dont have any "visual" raw feeds, all the feeds you see are references or smartfeeds

check out yahoo pipes, you can do the above quite easy

also you can exclude selected words with FR's smartfeeds

Hey

The smartfeeds also work great to get rid of any advertisments :)
