FeedReader is slow to update and refresh display

Hi,

I use FR for 6 month now. I'm really please about that piece of software ^.^

But I think that Fr is really slow even on a good PC. It takes about ~3 seconds to refresh the display when I click on a feed in order to display the news list.

My configuration:
2 x Xeon 3.20Ghz
2Go RAM

FR configuration:
"use multiple connections"

"enable javascript"
"leave folders open"
"show unreadcount"
"add additional performance"
"mark news item as read when selected"
"show pictures"
"show favorite icons in feeds"

I have 88 feeds and I already clean the database with the fixdatabase.bat

Plus, I find a bug on the favico update. For example, I added the feed "coding horror", the favico was the correct one (scared guy). I restarted FR, and the favico became a flame (favico of feeds.feedburner.com)

voila :o)

--haribo

maybe i dont fully

maybe i dont fully understand what you mean but....

i have 800 feeds on an equal PC and my impression is that FR speed is more than OK...if you have a lot of articles use a smartfeed and set a "age limit"...this will produce a much faster answer from your query...

an age limit in the search field would be very nice, though it takes quite some time to find what you are looking for..

you can also try to set viewcount to something less than default 1000, to improve speed

At first we always need FR

At first we always need FR version, file fixdatabase.bat is deprecated.

Now there is "FeedReader Backup Utility" app.
Options are Tidy up database,Fix possible database errors,Make backup,Restore from backup.

If you leave all those options checked, then fullbackup/restore is performed and all "garbage" is removed from db file.

Performance problem lies in DB engine currently.

You could try (Embedded Server for Windows)
http://www.firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=files&id=engine_203

unpack those files into Feedreader directory, rename fbembbed.dll into fbclient.dll.

There is also Feedreader version, that uses (SQL server 2005 Express Editon), but this version is not free. SQL server is at least >4x faster...

Suggestion

-Shut FR down.
-Delete your rssengine.fdb and the cache directory.
-Restart FR and reload your opml file.

Performance should be back. I had the same issue (insanely slow, loading thousands of files from the cache). I think it's because of a bad sync between two or more FR...
